ESSAY 1 : Nur Zahirah

I just realized that I haven’t done any write up since I started working in art gallery. No time? It’s just an excuse!

After I graduated from Bachelor of Art & Design in UiTM Shah Alam in year 2010, I was unsure what I want to do but I am certain that I want to work in art industry and working in office hours; 9am to 6pm. I heard people in art industry always working until late night and even working on the weekend!

I browsed through internet and I found 2 galleries that fit my requirement (working in office hours) which is Art Village and Purple House. My first choice is Art Village because they have a branch in Bangsar which I find it very attractive because I love the idea working in Bangsar. :D

*Kindly be informed that I was so naïve at that time.

So I compiled my resume with cover letter and email to artvillage@teng.com.my and waited for them to reply. If they didn’t reply within 1 week, I will try to email the other gallery. After couple days the owner finally called for an interview.

It went well I think.. and the result: I had to work in Kelana Jaya because they just closed the Bangsar branch with working hours from 9am to 6pm – which may sound like YAYYY except that my working days are included SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.

Now it has been almost three years working in Malaysian Art Industry. Still young compare to the others. I’m immune to work extra hours and weekend.

Future plan? Still in planning.

I see a lot of opportunity and potential. You can even create your own opportunity because Malaysian Art Industry is still small and everyone try and error. The most important thing is you must have the passion and you can go far.
